Oh Hey.

Welcome to my space. I write honestly about motherhood, finding joy, Jesus, not quite fitting in and embracing the mess. Grab a latte & let's skip the small talk.

2016 GOALS / OUR TREASURE IS IN HEAVEN

matthew6-20-21.jpg

I barely squeezed these babies in before we're celebrating Valentines Day and Easter and Christmas all over.

I do know really successful people set goals, and I want to be successful, so here goes. Please share yours, I would love to add a few more to my list and need some inspiration. (read: I would like to copy you).

2016 GOALS

1. To not be SO damn hard on myself. In parenting, body image, friendships, expectations, perfectionism, marriage. To let go and have more fun, embrace grace and forgiveness.

2. JOY. In the chaos and in the beauty. JOY grounded in eternity. That treasure and reward is in heaven, I may not see it here.

3. Head up a running group and run a 1/2 Marathon.

4. Put Drew above the kids.

You guys, these here are few, but they are mighty. Let me tell you how #2 goal came up. Kind of ironic that it's #2 on the list.

I was cleaning up the giant poo of my giant dog with the pooper scooper my dear neighbor gifted me this christmas. (How cool is that? Neighbors who gift pooper scoopers are the real deal..just saying). So, there I was, in the heat, scraping the wet poop halfway into the scoop and smooshing the other half deeper into the wet grass. You guys, my life is so glamorous.

As I surveyed the land for stacks of poo logs, something big entered my mind.

You won't find your treasure here.

Amen! I hope to Jesus and God my treasure is not warm feces.

No, it's not poo and it's also not on this earth. I was reminded that I serve because I am serving Jesus. I don't serve to see my reward, In fact, I may just never see it on this side of eternity. Serve anyway. If I don't get a "thank you," that's okay, I am not working for that. I am working towards heavenly treasure, not earthly words or accomplishments. I'm Investing in what matters, God and people. The only lasting things in life. It was such a refreshing reminder to work my booty off, but not for the sake of earthly praise or accumulating more here.

Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)

Treasures in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

This verse helps me stay out of the pesky little things that attempt to steal my heart and attention and joy. The lies I believe about not doing/being enough. How I forget that God is with me every single step. That it all goes back in the box...so love radically and keep short accounts. Love the faces off my little ones because they are here for me to love now. Be encouraged that Jesus is the treasure. That he is ultimate perfection. That nothing, nothing can get in the way of his ruthless love for you. You are his treasure.

I went on in my imperfect day, but my roots let up a bit. A little more shallow on the attachment to this earth. Heaven felt a little closer as the creator whispered, your treasure is in heaven.

I will unpack my other goals in later blog posts. Join me living today with eternity in mind.

Love to each of you.
