Remembering The Giggles
Training for a race is hard no matter what. It's REALLY hard while pushing a double BOB up a hill. It's even more challenging when those little humans sitting inside the BOB are screaming, trying to climb out, throwing pinecones at pedestrians, "mom, he's hitting me!!!," etc.
This craziness can sometimes make me want to stop training altogether. The frustration of having to work so hard just to go on a run can become almost unbearable.
The other day I was on one of my long runs and I barely noticed the babes. They were playing so well together, I took my headphones out and heard sibling giggles.
I smiled and was filled with joy from head to toe. Remember this, I thought to myself. Partly a runners high, but also relishing in the moment of the giggles. I was reminded through their sweet laughter that life is giggles and screams. To not be too stressed about the days that seem to be a ton of screaming. To let those go and remember that good run. Life is too short to sit and focus on the bad, there really is so much good.
Throwing the towel in because of the screams might be easy, but pressing in and on is the only way to keep training and eventually reach your goal.
In Surprised By Motherhood, Lisa-Jo Baker profoundly states, "The only way through is through."
Keep on fighting, sisters. Keep loving those babies and being patient with them, even if it requires a "mama time out." Keep running, keep learning, keep training..press on and press in. The only way through is through. (Believe me, the shortcuts don't work).
